Pepperl+Fuchs is going full speed ahead in the field of Industry 4.0. In 2017, the start-up Neoception was founded. Since then, Dr. Jörg Nagel and his team have been working on the development of new business models around the topic of “Industrial Internet of Things” and are available to customers in an advisory capacity. What Neoception can and wants, Jörg reports in the interview…

Jörg, you studied mechatronics at the University of Karlsruhe, developed new and secure communication solutions for a company in the cybersecurity industry, and did your doctorate at the Institute for Applied Computer Science at KIT. When did you decide to join Pepperl+Fuchs?
Jörg: I feel like I just started at Pepperl+Fuchs. In fact, I have been on board since October 2015. I still can’t believe how quickly the last year and a half has flown by. But that’s because of the many exciting and varied tasks and topics in my work.

Since January 2017 you are the head of our newly founded start-up Neoception. What did you do before Neoception?
Jörg: Before joining Neoception, I was a member of the innovative Industry 4.0 group at Pepperl+Fuchs. In the Industry 4.0 group, we have brought a new interface, the SmartBridge, to market maturity. SmartBridge can be used to access any IO-Link capable sensor with a tablet. In addition to product development, I was on the road as a technology scout, closely monitoring developments in the field of Industry 4.0 from a technical perspective and providing our management with input. I have implemented my findings several times in showcases for trade fairs, which served as a door opener for discussions with many customers. During my time in the Industrie 4.0 group, I was able to build up a broad network within Pepperl+Fuchs, which supports me in my new role as Head of Neoception.
