From Data Foundation to Digital Battery Passport: How HEITEC Turns Regulatory Requirements into New Business Models with Neoception
Company Profile
Customer: HEITEC AG
Industry: Industrial Automation and Machinery Engineering
Project partner:
Michael Rögner, Head of Smart Factory

Project Goal
The goal of the project is to develop a market-ready Battery Pass Module that meets regulatory requirements while enabling new digital business models.
Engineering made in Germany – now digitally connected
HEITEC AG delivers end-to-end solutions, products, and services in mechanical and plant engineering, automation, digitalization, and electronics – from the digital model to 24/7 service. With technically advanced, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions, HEITEC helps more than 2,000 customers increase productivity and optimize their products.
With the Battery Pass Module, HEITEC expands its Smart Factory portfolio with an innovative digital product that meets the upcoming requirements of the EU Battery Regulation. The goal is to make production, usage, and recycling data of a product transparent, standardized, and securely available throughout its entire lifecycle.

The Challenge: Regulation Meets Data Complexity
The new EU requirements surrounding the Digital Product Passport (DPP) pose the same core question to many companies:
How can vast amounts of production data be structured, made interoperable, and prepared in an audit-proof way? And how can this be turned into more than fulfilling regulatory obligations?
HEITEC had the answer: by integrating the Battery Pass Module into its own IoT platform, existing data should be leveraged to build a digital product lifecycle record – a future-proof foundation for new data-driven business models.
The Solution: Battery Pass Module Based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS)
Together with Neoception, HEITEC developed a market-ready Battery Pass Module in a short time, based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) standard.
The technical integration was seamless within the existing HEITEC IDX IoT platform – a perfect match with Neoception’s Digital Twin Infrastructure (DTI). The AAS structure allows production-relevant data from manufacturing to be automatically aggregated into a digital product lifecycle record, which is accessible to all relevant stakeholders throughout the product’s lifetime.
Core features of the Battery Pass Module:
- Standardized, interoperable provision of all relevant product and production data.
- Compliance with EU Battery Regulation requirements.
- Secure traceability of origin, composition, and usage.
- Foundation for sustainable recycling and traceability concepts.

Measurable Results and Added Value
The collaboration between HEITEC and Neoception resulted in a market-ready product in record time – while laying the foundation for future digital business models.
Results at a glance:
Rapid time-to-market:
Battery Pass Module developed in only a few weeks.
Regulatory compliance:
Meets EU Battery Pass requirements.
Reusable architecture:
Easily transferable to other product categories.
Scalability & integration:
Perfect technical compatibility with HEITEC IDX.
Economic efficiency:
Utilizes existing data structures; no need to build internal AAS expertise.
HEITEC has not only created a new product – it has established a foundation to meet regulatory requirements more efficiently and transform them into new digital business opportunities.
From Concept to Rollout: A Partnership That Delivers
For HEITEC, it was clear: the partner needed both technical expertise and a deep understanding of industry standards.
Neoception convinced with its active role in key industry committees and its in-depth knowledge of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and the Digital Twin. With the Neoception Digital Twin Infrastructure (DTI), a mature, scalable, secure, and standards-compliant platform was already available – easily integrable into HEITEC’s architecture.
The partnership between HEITEC and Neoception was characterized by agile collaboration, technical precision, and a shared understanding of standardization and future viability. From concept phase to integration to business model development, the teams worked solution-oriented and collaboratively.
A key success factor was Neoception’s ability to explain complex technical topics in practical and understandable ways – significantly accelerating the time-to-market of the Battery Pass Module.

With Neoception at its side, HEITEC has shown how regulatory pressure can evolve into true digital value.
The Battery Pass Module based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) creates transparency across the entire product lifecycle – from manufacturing to usage to recycling – becoming an enabler for sustainability, efficiency, and innovation.
